In prayer, we commune with God, asking Him to give us His desires as we consider His beauty, majesty and saving power. As we seek God together (Ps. 67:1-2), we ask Him to unite us in a holy pursuit of His mission believing that Christ is worthy of, and will surely receive, praise from among all the nations. The disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, and He taught them to pray about the in-breaking of God's Kingdom in the world, the forgiveness of sins, and fighting for holiness as we resist temptation. In James 5, we are instructed to pray for the sick. In all these things, we have confidence that our Heavenly Father hears us because we are qualified through the sacrifice and intercession of Jesus for us to draw near to Him with bold confidence (Heb 10:19). The apostle John says, "This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us" (1 John 5:14). In Philippians, Paul tells us not to worry about anything but in everything to pray. Our anxieties can become answered prayer, if we will treat them as a prayer list to take to our great God rather than a reason to panic about what we cannot do in our own strength. Prayer is an essential part of our individual lives as believers and an essential part of living together as Christ's church in His mission. In addition to the prayer that happens in our Sunday School classes and small groups, we have two prayer meetings during the week (fall and spring semesters) and a prayer guide for you to use at home as you pray for the North Roanoke family of faith.
