North Roanoke is blessed to have a strong history of supporting and participating in the work of taking the gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth. Being a healthy church can be summarized in three major categories: being a church that truly follows Jesus and strives to keep and live His Word, striving to impact your local community, and taking an active role in getting the gospel to places and people who have little to no access to the gospel. That is why, at North Roanoke, we like to say that our aim is to "be Christ's church, impact the Valley, and reach the world all for the glory of King Jesus."

On this page, we highlight our current missions emphasis, our policies, and partnerships. To learn more about why we have a heart for reaching the world with the gospel or how the Bible informs our missions strategy, please check out the links below.

Our missions strategy

Huehuetenango, guatemala

PicturePastor Efrain and wife Lupita
We are currently working alongside Pastor Efrain Juarez, the director of the Baptist Association of Huehuetenango.  He  mentors 9 or so pastors in the region.

Background:  Pastor Efrain Juarez and his wife Lupita originally lived in Totonicapán, Guatemala.  The Baptist Convention asked Pastor Efrain to go to Huehuetenango, a city 1-1/2 hour away by scooter and start a ministry.  He traveled there twice a week for months, then moved his family there and started a church.  Times were tough starting out; the family lived in the church basement.  Two of Efrain’s sons immigrated to the US and now attend NRBC.  Another member of NRBC previously attended Efrain’s church in Guatemala and assisted in outreach.  These families are a blessing in ministry both at NRBC and in Guatemala.

We are planning a mission trip in July '26.  The pastors asked if we could help with a local school outreach and a youth program, etc.

Although other parts of the world are more unreached, this particular region of the Americas has a high concentration of people with no knowledge of the love of God through Jesus Christ.  There are many challenges, but we will do what we can to come alongside the workers there and help eliminate the dots.  We want to be a blessing to the people of Guatemala and hope they see the light of Jesus in us.  Please pray for this region and for wisdom as we partner with the pastors in the work.  See graphic below from the International Mission Board.

missions policies and other documents

Because we believe every church member should be encouraged and have an opportunity to participate in a short-term missions trip, a portion of our annual budget is designated to provide partial scholarships to assist members participating in a church-organized missions effort. Even if you do not need scholarship assistance, please complete the scholarship application below to indicate your interest in the upcoming trip. A completed scholarship application is how our missions and community team knows you wish to participate in the upcoming trip.

missions partners

North Roanoke is blessed to be able to send a significant portion of our budget to missions agencies focused on the work of strengthening and planting churches in our Commonwealth, across the United States, and around the world. In addition to our support for the SBC of Virginia and the SBC, we also provide direct support to the International Mission Board. In other words, our church not only goes on on mission and prays for missions and missionaries, we also give to support the training and sending of church planters and missionaries at home and, especially, around the world to get the gospel to peoples who otherwise may not have the opportunity to hear of how they can be saved by Jesus.
