Impact the valley
At North Roanoke, we believe Jesus changes everything. He forgives sinners, heals relationships, and He gives us an entirely new way of viewing ourselves and this world. We believe the transformation that Jesus is making in us is a transformation He wants us to share with others. The most important way we do this is by sharing the gospel with our friends, neighbors, colleagues, family, and anyone else God brings into our lives. The greatest need of every person in our community and in the world is to have an opportunity to hear about Jesus, to turn from their sins, and to receive life everlasting in Him.
As those who have been rescued by Jesus and given a new life in Him, we also believe the Spirit leads us to live generously and to seek ways to make a strategic and practical difference in our community in Jesus' Name. A portion of our budget goes directly to the work of blessing others in our community. The initiatives noted below are some of the ways God is allowing us to impact the Valley for good. At North Roanoke, we want to be a church in the Roanoke Valley, for Roanoke Valley, that looks like the Roanoke Valley. No matter your neighborhood, your education, your background, you are welcome here, and we want to make a positive impact in Jesus' Name throughout the greater Roanoke Valley.

Burlington elementary school
Just across the street from our campus sits Burlington Elementary School. Burlington is a Title 1 school with more than 50 percent of the students receiving a free or reduced-price lunch. As a part of our Reach Roanoke initiatives, God has opened doors for us to provide meals for the teachers and staff during teacher-work days and at other times throughout the year. In addition, we work with the school to confidentially assist with other needs as they arise throughout the school year.
Mountain view elementary school
Although Mountain View Elementary is not across the street, it is nearby, and God has opened doors for us to assist Mountain View in ways that are similar to Burlington. In addition to meals for teachers and staff, and providing confidential assistance as needed throughout the year, we have sponsored the annual fun run fundraiser.
hollins fire and rescue
Each year, North Roanoke provides a gift to the Hollins Fire and Rescue department (located just across the street), and we also enjoy providing food to the men and women who serve our community when we have events throughout the year. Hollins Fire and Rescue also has a great BBQ fundraiser which we help by advertising on our church sign.
local office on aging
Each year, we host the fundraiser luncheon for the Local Office on Aging (LOA). The LOA exists to "help older persons remain independent for as long as possible," and we are pleased to assist them in this vital work in our region.
disaster relief
As a part of the SBC of Virginia, our church has opportunities for members to be trained in how to respond when disasters strike. Those who are trained are called out to respond to tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and other such disasters. People can receive a general level of training to assist a disaster-response team, and they may also specialize in areas like chainsaw use, meal prep and distribution, and etc. While this is a ministry that goes beyond Roanoke, we have people trained to help right here in the Valley when disaster strikes.
